The Lincoln Amateur Radio Club, Inc., is a nonprofit organization (IRS 501 [c][3]) devoted to the promotion of Amateur Radio. The club sponsors activities and programs intended to create growth in the number of licensed operators and to further the expertise of those already licensed. It is affiliated with ARRL: The National Association for Amateur Radio and has earned Special Service Club status.

The club was formed March 9, 1953, with 32 charter members present. Membership has grown since then, with a record of 400 in 1993. The LARC publishes a monthly newsletter, the "Lincoln LOG," and maintains a web site at www.146760.net where anyone can hear live audio from the Club's repeater. In addition, the Club periodically publishes The Insider which is sent only to Club members.

The Lincoln Amateur Radio Club is one of the largest public service organizations in Lincoln. In 2006, 191 'ham' operators donated 4,591 hours of public service to the community by helping with 26 events. In doing this work, collectively, we drove 23,499 miles and pedaled our bikes 972 miles.
In addition, the club maintains a pool of operators trained to watch and report weather conditions during our volatile spring and summer storm season. These operators are assigned to specific storm spotting locations as well as all local hospitals and major radio and television stations.
There were 7 SkyWarn (storm spotter) nets, initiated by Lancaster County Emergency Management to which 99 local hams responded and drove 5,129 miles.

The club assists such organizations as the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Cornhusker State Games, KFOR's "Operation Santa Claus," Lincoln Council of Churches, Lincoln Cycling Federation, Lincoln Velo Club, Lincoln Track Club, March-of-Dimes, Mayor's Office, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska State Fair Board, Nebraska State Games, Rails-to-Trails Foundation, the SAC Museum and UNL Sertoma Club.

The Lincoln Amateur Radio Club maintains a club station, a wide-coverage repeater on 146.76(-), a portable repeater on 147.09 (+) MHz; and an emergency communications vehicle. The Club station is available to any club member at any time by contacting any Board member. In the near future, the Club station will be on-line and available to any member anywhere - imagine working 20 meters from your hotel room in Seattle!
The club's K?KKV fixed repeater (146.76 mHz) is located on a commercial radio tower near 98th and Old Cheney. We hold nets every night at 9 PM that are open to all.

The club also owns and operates an APRS digi-peater on 144.39 MHz, a DX Packet Cluster on both 147.51 MHz and 223.7 MHz and a conventional packet digi-peater on 145.01 MHz for use in local packet conversations as well as for high-speed information transfer in case of a disaster response.

The club meets at 7:30 PM on the second Wednesday of each month at LiCor, 48th and Superior. Meetings are open to anyone interested in Amateur Radio, regardless of license or membership status. We hope to see you at an upcoming meeting.

Free classes for those interested in achieving an Amateur Radio license begin in September and January each year, sponsored by LARC. Federal Communications Commission examinations are held at least once each month, with Volunteer Examiners accredited by and affiliated with the ARRL Volunteer Examiner Coordination group.
