Got my used Warn XD9000i painted body color for installation. Yes, I know I'm a toolshed. :P Might look cool, might be overkill. I thought about adding synthetic line, but the winch spool was already marred from cable, and I would have to get a new fairlead or plastic rollers for mine. I do have an appropriately sized hook coming.
Still have to get my 2ga. primary cables and lugs before I can install it on Blue. Then, have to figure out my hardwired controls. Although the pendant control for this winch works, I generally use my dash controls. I am excited to have a real winch. The old Ramsey just wasn't cut out for a heavy pig like Blue.

Weren't you the one that chastised me for painting the beadlock rings body color on Big Blue back in the day????
I have long since outgrown my need to "compensate" for anything and have taken on a truly minimalist approach. Someday, you will see the light, grasshopper.
Flat black, flat black, flat back!!!!
Seriously though, it will look good. Since Blue already has more stuff hanging off it than a Christmas tree, might as well keep going.

Called Warn today, and they are sending me the replacement safety and operating decals. Probably come in next week sometime. Still waiting for my new line hook, too. Sounds like my 2ga. primary cable is backordered until next week. Guess I'm going to have to wait to get it mounted.

Well, my properly WLL rated line hook came in promptly. Just waiting on the 2ga primary cable now.
While I was wrenching today, I set the blue winch on the bumper mount to see what it will look like. The color really makes it blend into the body. I think I'm going to like it a lot. The winch is actually more unobtrusive painted body color. Can't wait to get it all hooked up!

looks like my own private thread...
Well, the winch body is now mounted, got the new hook on the line, and have all the wiring in hand. Just need to put the juice to it and spool the cable on the drum. I'll post pics when it's done. Or, you can come to the go topless day and see it in person!
I saw you getting donuts this morning, but you were facing the wrong way to see the winch...
I'm thinking (someday) about tucking mine in/under/behind my bumper... I think there's enough room...

It will probably need to be one of the old style that has the separate solenoid pack so it will tuck up better. There's quite a few of them out there. Those new Smittybuilt cheap winches would probably work. Did you put on an aftermarket bumper yet?
Thats they type of winch I was thinking. If I could remote the solenoid, I think it would fit, with minor modification. I havent even seriously considered buying a bumper or winch yet, theres a lot of things I need first.

At least my station wagon bumper isn't body colored. You gotta draw the line somewhere.
Flame on, Ethan!

Oh that is low, but you must remember that the liberty is a chickified mall crawler. Is that what the YJ is becoming?? :P

The drama continues! I hooked up the primaries today, and nada! The winch clicks, and then the ground cable gets hot instantly at the motor. I have doublechecked my connections, so I am at a loss. This winch isn't THAT beat up. It just acts like the wiring is wrong. The only other thing that it could be is if the lugs I soldered on the primary cables are too high resistance. You can literally see the primaries jump when I throw the winch switch! I suppose the motor could be burned out, but I have a hard time believing that.
Any ideas? I am hoping to check my connections again next to Sam's XD8000i ASAP.

Does this which power in and out - If it does the motor is shorted - armature or brushes are shorted the only other thing would be the bearings are locked up - Maybe you gat a little to happy with the paint? I would try a voltage drop test to find out where the main amp draw is then you will know if it is connections or motor. Anything over a half a volt is a problem.

A little update...
The motor was OK as far as all my testing went. I think it's a mechanical issue. Sam thought it even freewheeled harder than it should. I am wondering if the planetaries are messed up or if maybe the drum brake got corroded or wedged.
The winch just doesn't work. I sent it off to Minnesota to get worked on. Still waiting to hear from them.
Bottom line is, it looks really good. The paint doesn't make it stand out, it really blends into the body. I like the look a lot. If I ever get my Jeep put back together, I'll post some photos.

Finally heard today that my winch is fixed. Seems the solenoids were wired or setup wrong from previous owner. Luckily, nothing was damaged. Still costing me a hundred bucks!
Good news is that it will be on its way back, and when Blue is fixed, the "new" winch will be on it and functional as well. :D :D :D
